WHAT: Baked Lentil Chips by Mediterranean Snacks

STATS: Vary by flavor. The Roasted Red Pepper, for example, contains 120 calories and 2.5 fat, 19 carbohydrate, 3 fiber and 4 protein grams per serving (about 22 chips). Visit mediterraneansnackfoods.com for more information, including a store locator.

THE SKINNY: I’m partial to chips of fried potatoes and corn. So chips of … baked lentils?

A publicist sent samples of these chips made mostly of bean flour (lentil and garbanzo beans). To test their tastiness, I secretly enlisted girlfriends as test subjects, serving the Roasted Red Pepper version (others are Cucumber Dill, Cracked Pepper, Parmesan Garlic, Rosemary, Sea Salt and Fiery Tomato) at a gathering - with the Oikos Greek yogurt dips I recently reviewed - without word of what they were.

They loved them, raving about the flavor and the sturdy crunch. They liked them even more when they were told of their lower calorie and fat content.

Other Mediterranean Snacks we’ll have to check out are Hummuz Crispz, Lentil Crackers, Tapaz 2 Go (with lentil crackers and hummus) and Buffalo Wingers (“unique potato wing snacks, shaped like the famous bar food”).
