Highway work crews find body under overpass

Arkansas State Police are investigating a death Tuesday after highway crews found a body underneath an overpass in Saline County, a department spokesman said.

Crews working on an Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department project found a body about 2:30 p.m. underneath a bridge off Arkansas 367 South in Saline County, near East End, state police spokesman Bill Sadlersaid. Sadler said the body is believed to be female, but he said he didn’t know the state of the body when it was found.

State police have taken the body to the state Crime Laboratory to determine the person’s identity and cause of death.

No further information about the body was available late Tuesday.

In a related item, an unidentified Saline Countysheriff ’s deputy who was responding to the call collided with another vehicle near Arch Street Pike and Lorance Drive, sheriff ’s officespokesman Lt. Scott Courtney said, adding that he didn’t know if the deputy had activated his lights and sirens.

No one was seriously injured in the collision, though the drivers suffered some neck pain, cuts and scrapes, he said.
