Amanda Bynes’ parents are deeply concerned that their daughter may hurt herself or others unless they are allowed to assume control over her medical care and finances, court filings show. The petition Richard and Lynn Bynes filed Friday details not only her public incidents of disturbing behavior, but also reveals that the former child star has stated fears that she is being watched by smoke detectors and devices in the dashboard of her car. Ventura County Superior Court Judge Glen Reiser delayed ruling on the conservatorship petition, stating that there was no rush to act because the actress is under a two-week psychiatric hold.Reiser scheduled a hearing for Aug. 9 and said he also wants to meet with Bynes before making a decision. Bynes was put under the psychiatric hold after authorities said she set a fire on the driveway of a home in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks, where she grew up.

Garth Brooks is a granddaddy. The country music superstar acknowledged in a statement the birth of his first grandchild, Karalynn, who was born to his daughter August. The 51-year-old “Friends in Low Places” singer said he’d like to thank everyone “for their warm wishes and sweet celebration of Baby K’s arrival.” Country music’s best-selling performer has been in semiretirement as he raises his daughters in Oklahoma. He’ll have another girl around the house now. August was the second daughter to graduate from high school, and Brooks says he’s considering a fulltime return to recording and performing when his youngest, Allie, graduates from high school next year. “Our children’s lives have always been extremely private, and they have been endlessly encouraged to be their own people,” he said in the statement. “We have always wanted them to be individuals and not be known as ‘someone’s daughters.’”
