Deputy Injured After Traffic Stop

A Benton County Sheriff’s Office deputy underwent surgery Friday after he injured himself trying to apprehend a fleeing man.

Deputy Walter Fry was injured during a traffic stop at Walton Boulevard and Southwest 14th Street in Bentonville on Thursday night.

Keisha Guyll, spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office, said Fry was suspicious of the passenger during the traffic stop. The passenger fled and Fry followed, but tripped and broke his arm, Guyll said.

“He (Fry) scratched up his face and broke his arm,” she said.

The man later was apprehended, Guyll said.

Daniel Castro had a felony warrant for his arrest related to failure to appear in a DWI case, Guyll said.

Castro, 31, of Escondido, Calif., was arrested in connection with felony fleeing and possession of a counterfeit controlled substance.

Castro was being held Friday in the Benton County Jail with no bond set.
