Earnings report

Companies reporting quarterly earnings Thursday included:

3M Co., the maker of items from car fuel-system cleaners to dental braces, a profit of $1.2 billion, or $1.71 a share, up from $1.17 billion, or $1.66, a year ago. Revenue rose 2.9 percent to $7.75 billion. Shares rose 22 cents to close at $116.55.

International Paper Co., the paper and packaging company, a profit of $259 million, or 57 cents a share, up from $134 million, or 31 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 4 percent to $7.34 billion. Shares rose $2.98 to close at $50.19.

Raytheon Co., the world’s largest missile maker, a profi t of $488 million, or $1.50 a share, up from $472 million, or $1.41 a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 2.1 percent to $6.12 billion. Shares were unchanged at $69.75.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., owner of the luxury St. Regis and W brands, a profit of $137 million, or 71 cents a share, up from $122 million, or 62 cents, a year ago. Revenue fell 3.5 percent to $1.56 billion. Shares rose $2.92 to close at $66.24.
