Earnings report

Companies reporting quarterly earnings Wednesday included:

AT&T Inc., the largest U.S. phone company, a profit of $3.82 billion, or 71 cents a share, down from $3.9 billion, or 66 cents, a year ago. Revenue rose 1.6 percent to $32.1 billion. Shares fell 41 cents to close at $35.40.

General Dynamics Corp., the Gulfstream jet maker and defense contractor, a profit of $640 million, or $1.81 a share, up from $634 million, or $1.77 a share, a year ago. Revenue fell less than 1 percent to $7.91 billion. Shares rose 15 cents to close at $82.60.

Northrop Grumman Corp., the defense contractor and maker of Global Hawk surveillance drones, a profit of $488 million, or $2.05 a share, up from $480 million, or $1.88 a share, a year ago. Revenue rose less than 1 percent to $6.29 billion. Shares rose $1.54 to close at $90.30.

Reynolds American Inc., owner of the nation’s second biggest tobacco company, a profit of $461 million, or 84 cents a share, up from $443 million, or 78 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue was◊at at $2.18 billion. Shares fell 44 cents to close at $50.35.

US Airways Group Inc., the airline nearing a merger with American Airlines, a profit of $287 million, or $1.40 per share, in the April-June quarter. That’s down from $306 million, or $1.54 per share, a year ago. Revenue rose 3 percent to $3.87 billion. Shares rose 45 cents to close at $18.50.
