Return To Learn Offers One-Stop Shop At College

BENTONVILLE — NorthWest Arkansas Community College will host an event Thursday aimed at helping nontraditional students overcome enrollment hurdles.

Return to Learn will begin at 6 p.m. in the Walmart Auditorium of the Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies at the north end of the Bentonville campus, according to a news release.

Return to Learn is a student recruitment event that helps those interested in taking college classes and those who would like to obtain workforce certification or earn a GED.

Jamie Johnston, assistant director of admissions, said the event is about helping prospective students overcome their anxiety or concerns about pursuing higher education.

“We make it a fun and welcoming activity with food, drinks and a chance to win door prizes,” Johnston said. “At the same time, the participants who attend have the opportunity to learn about learner support services that are available here at the college. Prospective students may come with concerns about how they can juggle other life responsibilities with schoolwork. We show how our classes and opportunities can easily mesh with their busy schedules.”

Topics covered include how to enroll for admission and financial aid, advising, career services and flexible scheduling options. Attendees are encouraged to bring their 2012 tax return to have a financial aid representative assist them with Free Application for Federal Student Aid. A financial aid representative will be able to assist them with the application.
