Detour Planned For New Rogers School

ROGERS — Street construction will reroute parents enrolling their children at Janie Darr Elementary School.

Enrollment for elementary school students new to the Rogers Public Schools begins today at 9 a.m. Students in grades 6 through 12 who are new to the district can enroll at their school beginning 8 a.m. Aug. 6. School begins Aug. 19.

Mount Hebron Road is closed from Cross Creek Boulevard to Arkansas 264 until Aug. 14, city officials said.

Darr is at 6505 Mount Hebron Road, and its front drive and main entrance are inside the construction zone. Administrators will open the bus loop off Cross Creek Boulevard for parents enrolling their children. To enter the bus loop, parents need to approach the school from the north.

District employees will set up signs and direct traffic starting at 8 a.m., said Jim White, chief operating officer of the district. The bus loop will take parents behind the school to a gravel overflow parking lot on the south side of the school. Cars will have to take the same route out of the parking lot so it's important parents don't park on the bus drive, but in the lot, White said.

Parents need documents proving a child’s age, an identification number for the child, proof of address and proof of immunization to register a child in the Rogers School District.
