BASEBALL Hogs’ pitchers are summer all-stars

Arkansas pitchers Jalen Beeks, Jackson Lowery and Colin Poche have been named summer league all-star games.

Beeks, a junior, is a Cape Cod League all-star while Lowery, a junior, and Poche, a sophomore, are Northwoods League all-stars.

Beeks, playing for the Harwich Mariners, is 3-1 record with a 2.42 ERA in five starts.

Lowery, who redshirted last season, has five saves and 1.44 ERA for the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Poche has a 3-2 record, 1 save and 1.55 ERA for the Willmar Stingers.

GOLF ASGA junior match begins

The Arkansas State Golf Association Junior Boys and Girls Match Play begins today at Eagle Hill Golf and Athletic Club in Little Rock.

Tyler Green of Benton, the 2012 champion, is back to defend his championship in the boys division. Hannah Bakalekos of Sherwood, runner-up to Kaylee Benton in 2012, leads the girls field.

There are 61 boys and 19 girls in their respective fields. Each will play stroke play beginning at 8:30 a.m. today to qualify for match play which begins Tuesday morning. The girls championship is set for Wednesday. Boys semifinal and final matches are scheduled for Thursday.
