LITTLE ROCK Former Arkansas Lt. Gov. Bill Halter has made his bid for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination next year official.
Halter on Wednesday filed articles of incorporation papers with the secretary of state's office to allow him to organize and finance his campaign for the state's top office. Halter announced Friday that he was running for governor, the same day Attorney General Dustin McDaniel announced he was dropping out of the race for the Democratic nomination.
Halter is the only announced Democratic candidate. Other Democrats considering running include Highway Commissioner John Burkhalter and state Sen. Keith Ingram of West Memphis.
Former Congressman Asa Hutchinson is the only announced Republican candidate.
Halter was elected lieutenant governor in 2006 and unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate four years later.
