Regardless of the eventual outcome with regard to any change in law which may result from this effort, it seems obvious that the power of the NRA as a campaign funding entity has been badly damaged. Office seekers throughout large sections of previously NRA dominated electoral territory need no longer be intimidated by the prospect of a poor rating from the NRA.

"this gun debate is likely to become a battle between the extremes, the ones who hate the Second Amendment..."
"the gun-haters will press forward with as much as they think they can get to eradicate guns. "
This kind of language expresses the very hysteria. the editorialist pretends to be against.
I've never heard anybody say they hate the 2nd Amendment, and the kind of gun control proposed is very far from trying to eradicate guns.
