HELENA-WEST HELENA — Jacksonville opened the game with three consecutive three-pointers Friday night and never trailed on the way to a 78-51 victory over Helena-West Helena Central.
Helena-West Helena Central answered with seven consecutive points to pull within two, but that was as close as the Cougars could get as Jacksonville (11-3, 4-0) extended its lead to 21-12 by the end of the first quarter.
A three-pointer by Sergio Berkley at the end of the half pushed Jacksonville’s lead to 42-25.
The Cougars cut the lead to 44-30 in the third quarter, but the Red Devils went on an 11-0 run that included two three-pointers by Aaron Smith to push the lead to 55-30.
Smith led Jacksonville with 21 points and was followed by McCleary with 17 points. Jouvan Donald led Helena-West Helena with 14 points, and Frederick Bedford added 13 points.
