Fire

Avoca

• A cabin at 14520 1/2 Sugar Creek Road burned early Tuesday morning, said Jeremy Metcalf, Avoca assistant fire chief. He estimated the home, formerly a taxidermy shop, was under 1,000 square feet. The home’s resident said the fire took over quickly, Metcalf said. The cabin had a metal roof but flames were coming out the front door and windows when firefighters arrived.

Twenty-five firefighters spent two and a half hours getting the logs cooled down. Cold temperatures had firefighters taking turns warming up in the back of an ambulance. Avoca, Northeast Benton County, Pea Ridge and Rogers fire departments responded to the fire.

Fire Marshall Marc Trollinger said a wood stove caused the fire. He estimated $50,000 damage to the structure and $20,000 damage in contents.

Rogers

• A space heater in a sunroom sent two adults and one child scrambling for safety on Tuesday afternoon, said Rogers Chief Tom Jenkins. Firefighters were called to 1922 S. 13th St. for a fire at the back of the house. Fire Department records listed $7,000 worth of damage to the house. Only the sunroom was damaged. A brick wall kept the flames from damaging the rest of the home, Jenkins said.
