PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Phillips Is ‘Real Deal’ In Education

I truly enjoyed your feature article on Loyd Phillips and the Outland Trophy. As a retired administrator from Texas, I had the privilege of working with Loyd his last year at Heritage High School. Loyd was a great administrator, but more importantly he was a “good” man. He took the extra time it takes to work with today’s troubled youth and their parents. He was tough, yes, but more importantly he was fair and genuinely interested in helping the student.

>>Then, he and a gaggle of the Fayetteville intelligentsia
Actually the Fayetteville Freethinkers are the only such group of their kind in NWA hence their meetings attract many people who are not from Fayetteville or Washington County. But, with four fingers pointed back at you how could you be expected to know?

Rick: "Doug Krueger, self proclaimed atheist...">>
People who have the audacity to actually "self proclaim" what their own beliefs are really are the worst aren't they? I mean, how dare they? Really.
Rick: "judges himself to be a “freethinker”>>
The nerve. Who is this Doug to actually have the power to label himself and his own beliefs? As Rich says, you really can't make this stuff up. Nothing makes some people more furious than the word atheist. Here's my theory why:
The word suggests that there are some people, who, if they are right about the God question, aren't devoting massive amounts of time and energy to the notion that a God exists and appeasing its supposed desires. Just the fact that atheists have the audacity to even exist in the open, suggests that there is a possibility that people who do spend *vast* amounts of time and energy bowing and scraping before a ethereal entity (and all that entails), might have been wasting that time and might have been better off doing something else. Unless of course they are having a good time and improving the world with it (which does happen, see Lowell Grisham for instance), then more power to you.
If I may be permitted to quote Ingersoll just once more:
“I have little confidence in any enterprise or business or investment that promises dividends only after the death of the stockholders.” --Ingersoll

Yes. In fact several people regularly attend while travelling from Springfield Missouri, Eureka Springs, Fort Smith and Bella Vista, etc.,.

What is a freethinker?
A freethinker is someone who forms beliefs about religion and the supernatural through conscientious reflection and rational inquiry and not based upon authority or tradition. Freethinking is a method of arriving at conclusions, not a set of beliefs. Most freethinkers are agnostics, atheists, or deists.

I thank Loyd Phillips is one of the finest gentlemen I ever met. Redhead, down to earth, and cares. Mean and any man on the football field and a baby cat off. Wish he had played to Texas, HookemHorns!
