What to do about guns
Posted: January 12, 2013 at 2:50 a.m.
A sense of urgency is the most ephemeral thing in politics. That’s why the debate over gun control is reaching a key moment. The opportunity to do something serious about gun violence must not be lost. Vice President Joe Biden, heading up the task force created after the Newtown, Conn., school massacre, kept the issue alive this week in a series of high-profile meetings with interested groups, from victims of gun violence to the National Rifle Association. The next step is to move from talk to action.

Why don't we just let Obama scrap the constitution and become more like China. The people there are safe (from each other). All we have to do is give up a little of our freedom... And besides - the anti-gun lobby will be satisfied with all the above changes and will never demand any more restrictions to gun ownership - ever

An incredibly reasonable and entirely accurate editorial.

The question should be "What to do about people."

Ref --"The other would be federal legislation to tighten the definitions for gun trafficking, a problem that plagues the border with Mexico."
Operation Fast and Furious was the largest transfer of firearms across the Mexican border. This was done by Obama and the ATF, and transfered 2000 firearms into the hands of warlords, drug dealers, and children. As if October 20, 2011 only 700 have been recovered. Is this the kind of government control and supervision you are calling for Washington Post and FFT???

I agree, Money - arm us all at government expense!

good article.
now lets hear more about:
Beyond these, the White House can show leadership on the related issues of mental health and of violence in entertainment and video games.
this is the other shoe. but doubt we will get to that one this year.
how to keep guns out of the hands of the unstable?
we can narrow this down somewhat tho. how many girls are shooting people? NONE. seems to be a young man's dream. just like the hero's in the movies and games...easy to limit this compared to the guns? we need some new hero role models in the movies and games.

Thanks Gen, you may even get one of those toy airplanes Tank flies and at government expense. You might have to pony up for the fuel though.

I heard a caller on KURM's "Party Line" show Wednesday recommend euthanasia for the uncontrolled crazies . . . .
The show's host, Kermit Womack, disavowed the idea, in a pretty weak fashion, once the caller was no longer on. The fact that Kermit didn't call the boy out and spank him good while he still had him on the phone . . . well, makes me not want to vote for Kermit's son anymore.
I've got to say, KURM's Party Line's philosophy of "agree, or disagree - we're still gonna be friends" just doesn't set very well with most folk. Because it's a lie. I'm a Benton County Republican, and by God - you'll either agree with me, or ... well, I don't know what!! But it'll cost you time and money!!

I recomend neutering so I wasn't the caller. If you get one of Tank's toy planes, think of the voters you could influence.

Money,
I'm not a UAV operator. I am a JTAC. Big difference. We are definately not neutered. :)
Ramp up the background checks. Have everyone get them prior to getting their hands on a firearm. Require background checks for voting as well while we are at it. Hmmm...

I'd really prefer a seat on the Federal Communications Commission. I'm of the belief that there's way too much bandwith that folk like Kermit, you, and I have way too free an access to . . . .

I was just trusting what Gen told me. In that case, I would advise you to never TAG your own position in or it could be TANGO UNIFORM for you buddy. That voting thing I agree with.

I really dislike commenting immediately after my last comment, but:

Simple - buy more.

Money, I gave up on military service in 1984, so the only code words I know are from the Cold War era - what're you trying to say? English - do you speak it !?!

You are probably right, Money. I thought I needed to clear that up though. Especially since that all started with the so-called General who talks about ill informed comments. You can chalk my last post up to pride in profession.

You are right Gen buy more guns and ammo. TANGO UNIFORM means TU it's a military and pilot talk meaning, ah, I cannot tell you. If Coralie flaged me for a toliet joke she would have me arrested for this.

That's funny, herr General. My WWII vet grandad used "TU" all the time when he was alive. Of course, he was a fighter pilot. It means something is broken or has gone awry.
