LITTLE ROCK — SUN BELT UALR 13, SIU-EDWARDSVILLE 1
Austin Pfeiffer hit a grand slam in the second inning while, John Clark and Bryson Thionnet also homered to help UALR complete a three-game sweep of SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.
Pfeiffer’s home run, his first of the season, came with one out in the second and gave the Trojans a 7-0 lead. He finished 3 for 5 with 4 RBI and a run scored.
Thionnet’s home run came in the fifth and Clark hit his home run, also his first, in the sixth inning and gave UALR (5-2) a 13-0 lead.
Clark finished 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI, Thionnet scored 2 runs and had 3 RBI and UALR finished with 12 hits.
Ethan Schlechte earned his first victory of the season after giving up 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 6 in 6 innings.
ARKANSAS STATE 14, WESTERN ILLINOIS 6
JONESBORO - Arkansas State scored eight runs in the final three innings to rally for a victory over Western Illinois on Sunday at Tomlinson Stadium.
The Red Wolves (6-1) scored a run in the sixth, four runs in the seventh and three in the eighth and had 14 hits.
Logan Uxa and Claude Johnson each hit home runs and had three RBI and Ryan Emery also drove in three runs. Uxa went 3 for 4, while Zach George, Emery and Stuart Levy each had two hits each.
Freshman Adam Grantham gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in 3 1/3 innings of his second start, and Brandon Milouse and Tyler Winfield combined to give up three runs over 2 1/3 innings. But Jacob Bax, Seth McWilliams and Derek Birginske pitched three shutout innings in relief. McWilliams pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings to earn his first victory.
Alex Doty gave up one run in relief for Western Illinois (2-4) and took his first loss of the season.
SWAC MCNEESE STATE 3, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 2
LAKE CHARLES, La. - Connor Lloyd’s bunt single scored Andrew Guillotte and gave McNeese State a victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday.
UAPB had taken a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Mike Wieland hit a sacrifice fly an Dwayne Hysmith drove in Cody DeMara with a single.
But Jackson Gooch hit an RBI single in the eighth inning and then won it in the 10th.
Dylan Calhoun went 2 for 4 and stole a base for the Golden Lions (2-6), and Mikey Ramirez gave up no earned runs on 4 hits in 7 1/3 innings while striking out seven. Redmond Floyd took the loss for UAPB.
