— GOLF UCA finishes eighth in Louisiana Central Arkansas’ women’s team opened its spring season with an eighthplace finish at the LeTriomphe Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday at LeTriomphe Golf and Country Club in Broussard, La.

UCA was led by senior Julia Roth, who finished fifth, shooting 78-76-77 for a 15-over 231. As a team, UCA shot 970.

Lamar won the tournament with a 930 score, followed by Xavier (943) and McNeese State (950).

ASU men finish 16th Arkansas State’s men finished 16th in the 16-team field with a 54-hole score of 68-over-par 926 on Tuesday at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.

The Red Wolves shot a 308 in the first round, a 311 in the second and a 307 in the third. Auburn won the team title with a 3-under 861. LSU finished second at 865 and Illinois was third at 870.

Arkansas State’s Seth Garner was the Red Wolves’ top player with a 225, shooting 75 in each round.

BASEBALL Hendrix falls to Ozarks University of the Ozarks scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to take a 7-6 victory over Hendrix on Tuesday at Lonnie Qualls Field in Clarksville.

In the bottom of the ninth and Hendrix leading 6-5, Nick Brill and Tony Morales led off with consecutive singles for Ozarks. After a John Singler sacrifice bunt, Brandon Brewer was intentionally walked to load the bases. Peyton Johnigan followed with a ground ball to the shortstop, which was mishandled, allowing two runs to score.

Offensively for Hendrix, Ryan Ritz went 4 for 5, scored a run and drove in one. Collin Radack extended his hitting streak to 11 games with 3 hits, including 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored and a stolen base.

Nick Brill went 3 for 5 with two runs scored for the Eagles. Tony Morales also had two hits.

Harding falls at OBUOuachita Baptist (6-5-1) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday to defeat the Harding (5-1) 7-6 at Rab Rogers Field in Arkadelphia.

With the game tied at 6-6, sophomore Nick Ford (0-1) came on as Harding’s sixth pitcher of the game. Keegan Ghidotti walked to lead off the inning, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and scored the game-winning run when Ford’s next pitch eluded catcher Erin Mc-Carver Ouachita Baptist reliever Ben Gielow (1-0) earned the victory, pitching the final 4 innings and allowing 2 hits and 1 unearned run.

Arkansas Tech tops Henderson Jonathan Finnegan went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBI, and juniors Zac Johnson and Cole Fergus each drove in two runs as Arkansas Tech (10-4) defeated Henderson State (6-2) 9-3 at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia on Tuesday.

Danny Parker (2-0) took the victory, striking out eight in five innings.

UAM extends streak to seven Arkansas-Monticello secured its seventh consecutive victory by defeating Lyon College 13-0 on Tuesday at Monticello.

Of UAM’s nine hits, five were for extra bases, including three home runs.

The UAM pitching staff held Lyon (8-3) to just three hits. Freshman starter Zach McKnight (1-0) earned his first collegiate victory, allowing 1 hit with 4 strikeouts and 4 walks in 5 innings. Junior Logan Johnson and junior Russell combined to give up two hits in the final two innings.

Lyon’s Ryan Vericker (1-2) took the loss after allowing 7 runs off 4 hits with 1 walk in the first 1 1/3 innings.

UAM’s Agredano honored by GAC Arkansas-Monticello’s Ben Agredano was named Great American Conference player of the week after leading the Boll Weevils to a series sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State last week.

He hit .538 during the three-game series with 5 RBI and 5 runs scored. He opened the series with a four-hit game and then followed with a game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. He hit his second home run of the series, a two-run blast in the finale.

SOCCER Arkansas State signs California standout Arkansas State women’s Coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge announced Tuesday that Indra Garcia of Gilroy, Calif., has signed a national letter of intent play for the Red Wolves next season.

Garcia spent the previous two seasons at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose, Calif., where she became the first women’s player at the school to earn NSCAA first-team All-America status in 2012. She finished the year with 17 goals and added 16 assists to lead her team to a Coast Conference championship.

Garcia was also named the Coast Conference Player of the Year, was a first-team all-conference selection and first-team All-West selection.
