Airsoft Gun Reported On School Campus

— Two Washington Junior High School eighth-graders were involved Thursday in an on-campus exchange of an Airsoft gun, according to a letter posted on the Bentonville School District’s website.

The letter, addressed to parents and guardians and signed by Principal Tim Sparacino, noted the students involved would be reprimanded. No charges were filed, Superintendent Michael Poore said Friday.

The matter came to the attention of school officials after another student reported it to a staff member, according to the letter.

Airsoft guns are replica firearms used for recreational purposes, including military games. They use nonmetallic pellets and are considered nonlethal.

Sparacino wrote Washington Junior High is committed to doing “everything within our power to ensure the safety of our students.” He encouraged parents to talk to their students about school safety and items that are and are not allowed on campus.
