Fishing this week

— HOT SPOTSARKANSAS RIVER (LITTLE ROCK POOL) Crappie are biting well on jigs fished along rocky points and jetties. Bass are biting well on jigs, Rat-L-Traps and Alabama-rigged swimbaits. Catfishing is good below the dam using green sunfish, chicken hearts and brood minnows.

St. Francis LAKE CATHERINE Rainbow trout fishing is River very good in the tailrace. Bank fishermen are catching limits of fish on wax worms, meal worms, redworms and nightcrawlers kept just off the bottom with a marshmallow floater. Boaters are using small crankbaits thatimitate shad or crawfish around rock structure or sand bars. Fly fishermen are targeting the shoals and using micro-jigs in white or gray with a strike indicator.

LAKE CONWAY Crappie fishing is excellent using jigs fished 3 feet deep. Bass fishing is excellent using

spinnerbaits fished around docks and stumps. Catfishing is good using chicken livers and night crawlers.

LAKE DARDANELLE Bass are on the move to the shallows. Jerk

baits, jigs, Alabama rigs and lipless crankbaits are working best.

Crappie are being taken in Horsehead Creek, Shoal Bay, Piney Bay and the outlet of the nuclear plant. Catfish are being taken prettymuch on the entire river, but the best reports are coming from around Spadra.

LAKE NORFORK The winter bite has been outstanding the past couple of weeks. Striped bass, hybrid bass, white bass and black bass have been excellent. The best baits for black bass have been a small spoon, Wiggle Warts, suspended jerk baits and 3- to 4-inch paddle tail grubs and swimming minnows. The bass are coming up in shallow water early and late in the day and will drop back to 25-50 feet of water other times. Crappie fishing has been fair using minnows fished around brush.
