‘Crazy’ For Yogurt

New shop offers sweet treats, cozy hangout

The name of a new treat shop in Fayetteville was inspired by the owners’ children.

3 Crazy Berries opened in November, and Elijah Wright says he and wife Shar decided on the name because of their “three crazy kids,” a 3-year-old, a 2-year-old and a 9-monthold. The couple co-own the business, which features selfserve frozen yogurt along with other treats, such as cookies, brownies and popcorn.

Wright and his family moved from Las Vegas to Arkansas last September. They’ve lived in various places over the last five years, and he also traveled a lot for his previous job in construction. Wright says he wanted to spend more time with his family and be an entrepreneur, deciding on this venture because he and his wife enjoyed going to selfserve frozen yogurt shops. He grew up in Batesville and notes all of his relatives now live in Northwest Arkansas.

“It’s all about family for me,” he says.

The shop features two flavors and a swirl flavor in each of the six machines, so there are up to 18 flavors available. The yogurt has live and active cultures. The most popular flavor by far is dreamy dark chocolate, Wright says, followed by cookies ’n’ cream and birthday cake.

Other current flavors include blueberry tart, blueberry muffin, ooey gooeycinnamon bun, espresso, strawberry shortcake, Valencia orange sorbet, Tahitian vanilla, Mississippi mud, and peanut butter cup. Some of the flavors will change about once a month, he says.

There are 30 dry toppings, 27 refrigerated toppings and nine sauces, Wright said.

There are also homemade “bottoms” available in the cups, such as a brownie, a cookie or a waffle bowl.

Yogurt creations are weighed for purchase and cost 42 cents an ounce.

Wright says his wife wanted to create a warm and cozy place where people want to hang out. The shop has an iPad bar, which features iPads with games and Internet access.
