Scogin participates in NASA internship

Tyler Scogin of Fayetteville, a University of Arkansas student, recently completed an internship at the NASA Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.

Scogin participated in the center’s Undergraduate Student Research Program, conducting a research project titled “Nuclear Thermal Propulsion Scrubber System and Relief Value Sizing.” He is a senior mechanical engineering and physics major and is the son of Cliff and Linda Scogin.

The Undergraduate Student Research Program offered NASA research and development opportunities in engineering, science and mathematics to prepare STEM students to enter the workforce.

Eureka Springs nets nominations

Two Eureka Springs institutions have been nominated for the 2014 Henry Awards, named in honor of 17th-century explorer and original “Arkansas traveler” Henri de Tonti.

The Eureka Springs Arts Council has been nominated for the Community Tourism Development Award, which goes to an individual or organization that has used imaginative or innovative development ideas to enhance local resources. The Arts Council promotes tourism and showcases the city’s artistic talents by putting on events like the May Festival of the Arts and the Eureka Springs Indie Film Fest.

The Eureka Springs Historical Museum is nominated for the Bootstrap Award, presented to an individual or group that has had success on a shoestring budget.

The Henry Awards are sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. Winners will be announced on March 11 at the 40th annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism at the John Q. Hammons Center in Rogers.
