SOUTH CAROLINA Clowney video released

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Authorities have released video of South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney being ticketed, with troopers saying he drove 110 mph in a 70 mph zone.

Video obtained Tuesday by The Associated Press shows Clowney being pulled over in a Chrysler 300 around 7:30 p.m. Eastern Saturday on Interstate 77 north of Columbia.

Radioing in the call, the trooper identifies the driver only as “Clowney.”

Clowney is barely audible on the recording and remains in the car during the seven-minute recording.

The ticket carries a $355 fine. A copy obtained by AP shows Clowney has a Jan. 9 court date, although the trooper told him he didn’t have to appear.

Clowney is a junior expected to enter the NFL draft after South Carolina plays Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl.

East Lansing police said officers arrested 12 students and three others in the disorders late Saturday and early Sunday. Police say there were at least 57 fires.

Police are offering up to $20,000 for tips that lead to convictions.

The Lansing State Journal has posted video online showing thousands of revelers cheering as a couch was tossed on a fire.

NEBRASKA No interest in bowl

The Gator Bowl appears to be a tough sell to Nebraska fans.

A season that fell short of expectations ends New Year’s Day in Jacksonville, Fla., with a game against No. 22 Georgia, the same team that beat the Cornhuskers a year ago in the Capital One Bowl.

Steve Glenn, a walk-on offensive lineman in the 1970s, runs a travel agency in Lincoln. He said he’s sold fewer than a dozen seats on a 137-seat charter to Jacksonville. He thinks fans are “ready to be done with this season.”

Mike’l Severe co-hosts a sports radio show in Omaha. He said listeners are unhappy the Huskers are playing Georgia again. They had hoped to go to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, where Kansas State would have been the opponent, he said.

BAYLOR

Briles coach of year

Baylor Coach Art Briles is the unanimous pick as the AP Big 12 coach of the year.

The Bears had never had a winning record in the Big 12 before Briles arrived six years ago. They are now Big 12 champs and headed to the Fiesta Bowl.

Briles received all 20 votes in the balloting by media members who cover the Big 12 on a regular basis. The award was announced Tuesday, a day after the 11-1 Bears had six first-team selections on the AP All-Big 12 team.

The Bears beat Texas 30-10 on Saturday to clinch their first outright title in any league since the 1980 Southwest Conference championship.

When Briles arrived, Baylor was 35-101 overall in its 12 seasons as a Big 12 member under four different coaches.

NORTH DAKOTA STATE

Bohl: No ‘pity party’

FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota State Coach Craig Bohl said he told his players during an emotional team meeting that his departure to Wyoming was no reason to have a “pity party.”

Bohl was named Sunday to lead the Cowboys but will continue coaching the Bison during their Football Championship Subdivision playoff run. North Dakota State is seeking its third consecutive FCS championship. That would equal the string by Appalachian State from 2005 to 2007.

Bohl said in his weekly news conference in Fargo on Tuesday he told his players that football is a “man’s game played by men” and everyone should focus on Saturday’s quarterfinal game against Coastal Carolina.

The 55-year-old coach said his veteran team showed up at Monday’s practice ready to work and the players are “galvanized to move forward and win.”
