Rogers Police Officer Released By Hospital

ROGERS — Waseng Xiong, a police officer hit by a vehicle Monday night, was released Tuesday from Mercy Medical Center, according to a Rogers Police Department news release.

Xiong, 32, was directing traffic after the Christmas parade at Third and Walnut streets about 8 p.m. Monday when Carla S. Bauer, of 14523 Vaughn Road in Bentonville hit him with a Nissan Rogue, according to an Arkansas State Police news release. The agency investigated the incident.

Bauer, 70, was driving west on Walnut Street when she disobeyed Xiong’s signal to stop and drove into him at a slow speed, Cpl. Raymond Triplett said. Xiong was standing adjacent to his marked police vehicle with its lights activated when he was hit, according to the State Police news release.

Bauer was cited for disobeying a police officer, said Triplett. Bauer must appear Jan. 31 in Rogers District Court.

Xiong suffered injuries to his hip and leg, according to State Police. A Fire Department incident report indicated Xiong had shoulder and arm pain.

Xiong stayed overnight at the hospital for observation, according to the Rogers news release.

Xiong has worked at the Rogers Police Department about two years.
