Motorcyclist Leads Deputy On Chase

— A high-speed chase early Monday ended with a wrecked motorcycle and the arrest of a Fayetteville man.

Curtis Coulter, 34, of 5702 W. Chattell St. refused to pull over about 2:45 a.m. after a Washington County sheriff’s deputy followed him on Interstate 540 and Gregg Avenue, according to Capt. Dallas McClellan.

McClellan said Coulter was speeding. When the deputy turned on his lights on Gregg Avenue, Coulter sped off, running a red light and eventually wrecking his motorcycle on Mall Avenue near Old Navy.

McClellan said Coulter ran away and was found hiding behind a large trash bin.

Coulter was arrested and charged with misdemeanor fleeing, reckless driving, no proof of insurance and failure to register a vehicle. He was released Monday from the Washington County Detention Center on $1,060 bond.

McClellan said was Coulter was not intoxicated and suffered minor injuries.

“He said he was late to work,” McClellan said.
