Man Arrested in Connection With Rape Of UA Student

— University of Arkansas Police say they’ve arrested a Springdale man in connection with the rape of a student that occurred last year on campus.

Police arrested Cesar Michael Figueroa, 22, on Monday. Figueroa was booked into the Washington County jail on a preliminary charge of rape.

No bond had been set Monday afternoon. Figueroa has a first appearance hearing set for Wednesday.

A student reported she was attacked and raped Sept. 2 in university parking lot 14, according to a police press release. The lot is on the east edge of campus off Maple Street and Gregg Avenue.

DNA evidence collected during the investigation was submitted to the state Crime Lab where a profile was developed and submitted to the national DNA database. Figueroa was identified as a suspect, based on that evidence.

Figueroa is not affiliated with the university.
