Springdale Man Found Dead

Posted: August 18, 2013 at 5 a.m.

Springdale police are investigating the death of 62-year-old Edward Charles Abel at 8881 E. Brown Road.

A man was found dead in his home late Friday night, according to police records.

This story is only available from our archives.

One of the first rules I was taught in journalism school was the importance of sticking to the facts. When a man is found dead in his home and the police suspect foul play, that's all you need to say. Why you felt the need to report that the neighbor said the victim was the sort of guy who gave her the creeps is beyond me. Completely unnecessary details.

By watching the news you can tell that Springdale is nothing but a sewer hole. The crime rate - robberies, killings and shootings and graffiti has gotten so out of control . Maybe Springdale should get some assistance from the military to clean it up since the police haven't had much luck.

Oldrustynut....it will stay a sewer hold as long as the press is controlled by big money. To much growth going on in NW Arkansas. The press is not aloud to write to much on the crimes because industry outside of Arkansas may choose to go elsewhere.

Oldrustynut.... it is all about money and I know you know that!

Why would the News print this crap the neighbors said about this poor man. Why would the News print innuendo, rumors, and hatefull remarks about this victim. It seems the News has took more time talking to people about this poor man than they have in regards to the take over that is going on in Tontitown. The police released no further details, but that didn't stop the News from besmirching this poor man. Shame on you Morning News.

I might note that yesterday I received a letter from the Morning News that advised my subscription cost will be going from $12.00 a month to $23.00 a month. The price more than doubled. The letter had verbiage as to why the cost had went up, revenues are down, home delivery cost have increased, and so on.
The letter didn't advise if I would receive anything extra for my money, but did say I would have access to all of their websites. What the letter didn't say was that I would have to pay extra for these sites.
The letter advised some newspapers charge $36.00 per month for home delivery. I get the paper thrown in my drive way everyday, I have contacted the paper more than once trying to get this stopped. I use the on line service and never open the paper that is delivered, I just put it in the trash. Customer service advised the home delivery can't be stopped and even if it did it would cost the same as I am paying now, go figure.

The letter bragged about journalistic quality and that they are providing exclusive, relevant, and important news. Boy you can see these qualities just by reading this article, the things they printed about this poor man shows none of these qualities.

The letters final sentence stated " We appreciate you for making us part of your day " how nice. The thing is I don't mind paying it's not the money, it's the lack of quality and timelessness of the news. Friday the news reported a short article on the Bethel Hieghts Chief of Police being put on administrative leave for a unknown reason. The news as far as I can tell has never printed a follow up on this, however it has been all over the Television local news as to why he was put on leave.

Another thing while I am venting, I receive at least 10 robo calls a day from the Northwest Arkansas Times wanting to sign me up as a subscriber, I tell them I have been a subscriber for years and they hang up. Well I tell you within 1 or 2 hours they will call back, I have told them not to call me again, but they do anyway. You think they would check their records before they bother people who already subscribe. One way for the News to cut cost is stop this waste of time and money.

I don't know if I am going to pay the increase or not I will have to think about it for a while. I don't know how many people will be effected by this increase, my guess it is thousands, do the math and figure what is going on for yourself. Yes I admit I have problems with a lot of stuff, but this takes the cake.

By reading these comments, all I see are uneducated comments made by uninformed posters that would rather post nonsense before learning the facts. If you are going to base any opinion on “news” reporting found in NWA, then you should have your head examined.

Here are the facts. Springdale is the second safest city in NWA behind Bentonville (only comparing the big 4). Fayetteville is by far the worst (OMG, how could that be? Disgruntled unicorns? Disenfranchised sprout nibblers?)

http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/ar/f... - crime rates per 1000 residents (lower is better). Total index (100 is safest so higher is better).

Violent – 4.18, total - 48.18. Index –10

Violent – 2.84, total – 37.47. Index - 18

Violent – 3.82, total – 43.64. Index – 13

Violent – 2.34, total – 23.5. Index – 39

Sorry if I interrupted your ignorance and racism.

Oh – Desp – I actually agree with your last post! Hades has frozen over thus proving the existence of God.

Have a great day.

From $12 to $23 is not "more than doubled". But yes, the news team is pretty weak.

Pasadena publisher launches a system for outsourcing local news
“I’m looking for individuals I can pay a lower rate to do a lot of work,” says Journtent founder James Macpherson.

A publisher in Pasadena, CA, who said he received death threats when he started hiring workers in India to write local stories five years ago nevertheless has launched a business to help other local publishers start outsourcing.

The comments are accurate. The news is Idiot for writing about a neighbor who didn't know the man at all. His death has stunned and shocked all that knows him personally. He was a "golden soul" - he worked the sound system at Fellowship Bible church in rogers - volunteer, of course; his wife had passed a way a year ago and he was just beginning to make a new life for himself and caring for her for many years. He was very smart and brilliant. -- and the paper is Further more Idiot for printing the full name of a person the phone call was made to while the Killers are Still Loose!!!

They were just so happy to scoop something other than the brown stuff they usually scoop. Turns out it's just a different brown.

A Tribute to Our Friend, Ed Abel
The night of August 16th our friend, Ed Abel, was brutally murdered in his home by unknown assailants.

Information from the media does not present a true picture of our friend, Ed Abel. The reporting is presented as fact. One friend expressed it well: “It is RUDE and CRUDE to diminish someone's life to a couple of comments by a neighbor!” Another said, “Ed was a faithful good man. A personal comment made by that individual on TV news was very disrespectful. Ed was a dear friend and will be missed.”.

Several of those who knew Eddie have expressed their thoughts about their dear friend.

We are heartbroken and grieving this morning as his church family. Please lift up his brother and the many forever family around him here at church that are grieving this loss. He was loved so much.

The loss is so huge, it's hard to wrap your mind around but I've had to keep going back to how God blessed each one of us with the 'gift of Ed' to our group this past year and how God allowed each of us to have healing input into Ed's life and pain over the loss of Peg. Ed gave so freely of his time to help others with their computer problems, with moving, with car repair or home projects. He worked for years with computers and was very knowledgeable on computers and related systems.

Ed was a gentle man who sent out powerful and encouraging e-mails to our group – even in his own pain.

Eddie had a "golden soul". We were blessed that we knew him. I invited him out for a neighborhood gathering. I asked him to say the blessing. He said it in Hebrew, then English!! He was a student of God's Word and often read the Bible in Hebrew.

Someone from out of state wrote: “He was one hell of a guy and a real pleasure to be with.”

E-mail from Ed sent to his friends August 1, 2013 on the first anniversary of his wife's death. Thank you all for your prayers and your friendship over the past year. It has been a tough year indeed and I can frankly say without such good friends and all of your prayers I don’t think I could have made it this far. … Your friend in Christ, Eddie

Some have judged him from the cover they saw and never opened the book. They didn't know his situation. Had they looked inside, they would have found a special friend.

From Friends of Eddie's

The whole affair is sad. The media's and neighbor's comments/reporting--inexcusable and disgusting. Do know, however, the perp(s) of this crime shall stand in judgement before the Highest of all authorities, whether or not found and brought to justice on this earth. God knows all of our hearts, and we all will be accounted for such. Those responsible may elude man, but they cannot hide from God. The acid test for every aspect of this affair, every comment and every action is whether or not Christ has been honored. That alone would speak of the heart.

I am sorry but the only thing that will bring this killer to justice is good old fashion hard nosed police work. It has been over a week from when the murder occurred and today's brief statement from the police is " officers are checking leads ", in other words they don't have squat. A killer is running at large and the police say officers are checking leads, The public ought to feel really safe knowing they are checking leads. As far as your faith in your god I submit it was your god that let this happen. I am sorry but I don't buy it, when these things happen people run to their god. I submit if you believe in this hoax why wouldn't you run away from your god he is the one who has allowed these tragedies to happen in the first place. No Sad the only thing that will bring this killer to justice is good police work and the needle.

Do agree that justice would be awesome. So police don't have what they need to do that. Do agree that God allowed this, as many things that happen on earth. Do agree that Christian people find their strength and refuge in God--"run to their god. " Do not agree that turning away from God is an option. Yes, Christian people believe in the Bible. Christians understand that not everyone believes in God or the Bible. That is their decision. We do not begrudge or judge that.

None of you live in the real world. When things like this happen, the neighbors talk. That' s just human nature. This does not make them disgusting.

Does it make the paper disgusting for printing them? Maybe. But it's really no different from all of the slowing down and gawking at a wreck scene...and I'm willing to bet my annual income that most if not all of those posters here gawk at accidents. Spare your outrage for the things in life that are really outrageous...and there are plenty of them from which to choose.

Just goes to show you that you can't believe everything you read. "Fellow" appears to have been there and done that rather than swallowing whatever was written. Hint, hint....anybody got laundry list of unreliable links to post? Freebie where are they? Nothing beats being there, seeing it, and doing it. Thanks for clearing some things up "Fellow".

I looked up the definition of Disgusting, it's exactly what both the rumor mongering neighbors and the News are for saying these things and printing them.

There is a plethora of things that are different about what happened in this case and people " Gawk " ing at a accident.

I will place my outrage anywhere I want it. If this kind of thing doesn't seem a outrage to you then you need to do some hard thinking about how you perceive things. This is not a put down it is just what I think.
