Buddhist workshop on dharma practice

CROSSES - The Tibetan Cultural Institute of Arkansas is sponsoring a one-day workshop on Buddhist dharma practice 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. today. The workshop will be led by Geshe Thupten Dorjee at the Land of Infinite Bliss retreat center.

The workshop will include teachings on performing dharma practice. Participants will learn how to make prostrations, set the altar, make offerings and more. Cost is by donation, suggested at $20-$50, according to a participant’s ability to pay.

Participants are asked to take a lunch, as well as a cushion to sit on.

Emmaus retreat

to cover ‘journey’

FORT SMITH - St. Scholastica Retreat Center, 1205 S. Albert Pike Ave., will host a retreat, “The Journey Matters: Opening Ourselves to an Emmaus Encounter,” Sept. 6-8. Registration deadline is Aug. 23.

The retreat will be led by Cackie Upchurch, director of the Little Rock Scripture Study. She will use the Emmaus story found in Luke 24 as a framework for the weekend. The retreat will include Scripture reflections and teaching, personal quiet time and opportunities to discuss the grace of God. Cost is $175 and includes lodging for two nights and five meals. Cost for commuters is $120 and includes meals.
