SEC/STATE BASEBALL ROUNDUPS

SEC ALABAMA 3, TEXAS A&M 2

Sophomore Justin Kamplain allowed two runs in 7 1/3 innings and Alabama (27-18, 11-9 SEC) held on to beat Texas A&M (22-22, 7-13) on Saturday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Kamplain (1-0), a left-hander, turned in the longest start of his career, striking out 5 while allowing 5 hits and 1 walk.

Ray Castillo earned his eighth save.

Parker Ray (0-1) allowed 3 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings to take the loss.

Ben Moore finished 2 for 4 with a single, a double and a run scored for Alabama. Kenny Roberts had an RBI double, Mikey White had a double and Kyle Overstreet went 2 for 4 with two singles and a run scored.

KENTUCKY 5, MISSISSIPPI 4

Max Kuhn’s RBI single with the bases loaded in the eighth inning lifted Kentucky (26-17, 9-12) to a victory over Mississippi (30-13, 10-10) at Swayze Field in Oxford, Miss.

Trevor Gott worked around two hits in the ninth to earn his 10th save of the season.

Kentucky trailed 1-0 before taking a 2-1 lead after four innings. Austin Anderson gave Ole Miss a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning with a two-out, two-run home run. The Wildcats tied the game at 3-3 on Greg Fettes’ home run and took a 5-3 lead in the eighth.

Corey Littrell (5-3) allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in 8 innings. He struck out 6 and walked one.

SOUTH CAROLINA 4, LSU 2

South Carolina (31-12, 12-8) rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth inning to stun LSU (39-5, 16-4) in front of the largest regular-season crowd of 10,246 at Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Grayson Greiner reached when LSU shortstop Alex Bregman booted a ground ball. After Connor Bright fouled out, Tanner English hit a triple to center field to score Greiner. With Graham Saiko at the plate, home plate umpire Fred Cannon called LSU reliever Chris Cotton for a balk to score English. LSU Coach Paul Mainieri argued the call and was ejected by Cannon.

VANDERBILT 5, MISSISSIPPI STATE 2

Tony Kemp had four hits and Vanderbilt (38-6, 18-2) clinched a series victory, beating Mississippi State (33-12, 10-10) at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tenn.

FLORIDA 3, TENNESSEE 2, 10 INNINGS

Zack Powers’ game-winning groundout gave Florida a victory over Tennessee in 10 innings at McKethan Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.

SUN BELT CONFERENCE ARKANSAS STATE 4, MIDDLE TENNESSEE 3

Arkansas State scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning on its way to beating Middle Tennessee on Saturday afternoon in the completion of a suspended game from Friday night at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

ASU loaded the bases with one out Friday night, but the game was eventually suspended because of lightning and heavy rain. After a 17-hour, 40-minute suspension, the game resumed at 2:15 p.m. Saturday with Dustin Jones at the plate, and he hit a three-run triple to give the Red Wolves a 3-0 lead. Kevin Fitzpatrick followed with a groundout to score Jones.

The game was stopped at 2:20 p.m. after the Red Wolves’ four-run inning but resumed for a final time at 3:29 p.m.

Middle Tennessee scored a run in the top of the sixth inning and added two more in the eighth to pull within 4-3, but John Koch struck out the side with the bases loaded and went on to earn his fifth save of the season.

Daniel Wright (5-3) allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and struck out 7 in 7 innings.

ASU was scheduled to play Middle Tennessee in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday night, but the threat of inclement weather forced the teams to play a doubleheader instead today. Game one is at 11 a.m. with the second game to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.

UALR-WESTERN KENTUCKY POSTPONED

Inclement weather forced UALR to postpone its game Saturday against Western Kentucky at Gary Hogan Fieldin Little Rock.

Game one will begin at 11 a.m. today.

SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE CENTRAL ARKANSAS 6-1, MCNEESE STATE 4-6

Central Arkansas broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the 11th inning and held on to beat McNeese State in the first game of a doubleheader at Cowboy Diamond in Lake Charles, La.

The Bears lost the second game 6-1, but still won their fifth consecutive Southland Conference series.

Ethan Harris led off the 11th with a single to right field and moved to second on Blake Marchal’s bunt. Scott Zimmerle was intentionally walked and Chris Townsend walked to load the bases for Michael Marietta, whose sacrifice fly to right field scored Harris for a 4-3 lead.

Townsend advanced to second on a wild pitch. Garrett Brown reached on an error by Connor Lloyd and Zimmerle scored on the play to make it 5-3. Townsend came home on Jacob Williams’ wild pitch for a 6-3 advantage.

McNeese State pulled to within 6-4 in the bottom of the 11th on Sam Peterson’s RBI single, but Ethan McKinzie got Tyler Klouser to pop out to the catcher Marietta to end the game.

UCA left-hander Jeffery Enloe pitched 10 innings, earning a no-decision. He allowed 3 runs on 11 hits, struck out 3 and didn’t walk a batter.

The Bears trailed 3-1 going into the top of the eighth inning before tying the game at 3-3. Townsend hit an RBI single to score Marchal, and three batters later Justin Treece’s sacrifice fly scored Zimmerle for the tying run.

Brown, Harris and Townsend each had two hits for UCA. Harris drove in a run and scored a run.

Lucas Quary finished 3 for 5 to lead McNeese State, which outhit UCA 13-9 but committed three errors.

In the second game, UCA was held to four hits and committed three errors.

Jonathan Davis had two of UCA’s four hits, including a home run in the top of the ninth inning for the Bears’ only run. Townsend and Treece each had a hit.

UCA starter Bryce Biggerstaff allowed 4 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings.

Michael Sullivan went 4 for 5to lead the Cowboys offensively. SWAC ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 7-10, TEXAS SOUTHERN 6-5

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (17-25, 11-9 Southwestern Athletic Conference) swept a doubleheader against Texas Southern (17-22, 9-11) at Torii Hunter Baseball Complex in Pine Bluff.

In the first game, the Golden Lions trailed 6-5 going into the bottom of the ninth. But Dwayne Hysmith hit a game-winning two-run double to score Isias Alcantar and Mike Ludwig with two outs.

Tyler Oertle finished 3 for 4 and scored a run for UAPB, which was outhit 11-9.

In the second game, Dylan Calhoun finished 4 for 4 with 2 RBI and scored 3 runs to lead the Golden Lions offensively. Kirby Campbell went 3 for 4 and Oertle and Cody DeMera each had two hits.
