A Murfreesboro man died after he struck a tree, causing his van to catch fire in Hempstead County early Saturday, according to a preliminary Arkansas State Police fatality accident report.
About 1:40 a.m., Billy Joe Williams, 36, was driving north on Arkansas 195 near Hempstead County Road 51 in a 1996 Dodge van when he failed to negotiate a curve, veered off the road and struck a tree, state police said. The van then caught fire.
Williams died of his injuries at the accident scene, state police said.
