UALR loses in ninth at Texas-Arlington

Texas-Arlington’s Travis Sibley hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to hand UALR a 5-4 loss Wednesday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.

Justin Copeland led the Mavericks’ rally with a one-out single. He moved to second on a wild pitch from Tyler Buckley. Buckley struck out Brandon Lawrence, but walked Darien McLemore and Peter Cuomo reached on an error.

Sibley then hit a single to left field that scored Copeland for the winning run.

UALR scored four runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 4-4. Kaleb Jobe led off the inning with a walk, and consecutive singles from Sam Vogel and Myles Parma loaded the bases. Bryson Thionnet was hit by a pitch and Jobe scored to pull the Trojans within 4-1. Ben Crumpton reached on a fielder’s choice, Vogel came home on the play and Parma scored on a throwing error. Austin Pfeiffer’s sacrifice fly scored Crumpton and tied the game at 4-4.

Daniel Milliman earned the victory in relief for Texas-Arlington after recording the final out in the top of the ninth.

UALR finished with four hits as Parma, Pfeiffer, Vogel and Blake Johnson each recorded a hit.

Mavericks starter Keegan Hucul earned a no-decision despite allowing one hit in 6 1/3 innings.

UALR hosts Western Kentucky in a three-game series beginning Friday at Gary Hogan FIeld in Little Rock.
