Robinson Picked For Naturals HOF

SPRINGDALE — Clint Robinson will be the first inductee to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals Hall of Fame.

A Hall of Fame voting committee selected Robinson over current Kansas City Royals Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer and current Arizona Minor League player Kila Ka’aihue, who played in 2008 for the Naturals.

Robinson played the entire 2010 season with the Naturals and he became just the third player in the history of the Texas League to win the Triple Crown. The Naturals won the Texas League Championship in 2010 and Moustakas and Hosmer were both members of that team.

Robinson is currently playing for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, who are the Double-A affiliate for Toronto.

Naturals radio broadcaster Steven Davis said he felt all four players were deserving of being selected but feels that winning the Triple Crown was the difference for Robinson. Davis is beginning his sixth season with the Naturals.

“I just remember how consistent Clint was,” Davis said. “Offensively, Clint was the cornerstone of that 2010 team.”

Robinson, who now lives in Northwest Arkansas, won the Triple Crown after leading the league in batting average (.335), home runs (29) and RBIs (98). Only three players in the 114-year history of the Texas League have won a Triple Crown.

Robinson already had the batting average and home run titles wrapped up going to the final game of the 2010 regular season but he hit four RBI to wrap up the honor.

The induction ceremony will be held August 17 and the first 2,000 fans through the gates of Arvest Ballpark will receive a replica plaque of Robinson.
