I-540 lanes to shut in Fort Smith area

FORT SMITH — Interstate 540 drivers in Fort Smith can expect lane closings near the Arkansas River Bridge during some daytime hours Monday through Thursday, according to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

The Highway Department will close left or right lanes between the Kelley Highway interchange (Exit 5) and thebridge, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on those days. Workers are repairing the surface of another bridge, which carries I-540 traffic over the Arkansas River relief channel.

Times for the lane closures could vary, depending on weather or other conditions, according to a Highway Department news release. Officials urge motorists to use caution and obey posted speed limits in the area.
