5 A-SOUTH

CAMDEN FAIRVIEW 58, HOT SPRINGS LAKESIDE 10

CAMDEN - Camden Fairview’s Jamie Smith ran for 161 yards, and the Cardinals ran their conference winning streak to 20 games against Hot Springs Lakeside on Friday, as the Cardinals defeated the Rams.

Now playing in the 5A South, Camden Fairview hasn’t lost a conference game since Week 5 of the 2010 season. Friday’s victory improves the Cardinals, ranked ninth in the state, to 4-0 on the season, while Lakeside falls to 2-2.

The Cardinals scored early and often against the Rams, taking a 21-3 lead after one quarter. After Smith ran the ball down to the 2 with a 16-yard run, Deion Holliman scored to give the Cardinals a lead they would never lose. Jerry Moorehead reeled in a short pass and carried several defenders down to the 1 line, and scored on a quarterback sneak on the next play to put Camden Fairview up 14-0.

After Lakeside kicked a 26-yard field goal, Matthew Ollison hit Moorehead with a 45-yard pass play to increase the lead to 21-3. In the second quarter, Holliman returned a fumbled punt 75 yards for another score, before running in a 2-point conversion as well to push the lead to 29-3.

Ollison then hit Braxton Hoof with a 29-yard touchdown pass before Byron Keaton came in to throw two of his own, including a 19-yarder to Smith, and a 17-yarder to Hoof to give Camden Fairview a 51-3 lead at halftime.

With the clock running and reserves finishing up the contest, Lakeside got a 45-yard score from Garrett Garner before Keaton scored a running touchdown of his own from 9 yards out to set the final score.

Camden Fairvew finished with 229 yards rushing and 180 yards passing with 16 first downs. Lakeside finished with 100 yards rushing and 97 yards passing after having 84 yards at halftime, including 8 yards rushing.
