Teacher Placed On Leave

The Springdale teacher arrested this week on drug-related charges has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Rick Schaeffer, school district spokesman, said Thursday district officials are continuing to collect facts in the case of Michael Perez-Guerra, a math teacher at Springdale’s Alternative Learning Center.

Perez-Guerra, 30, and Karen Willard were arrested Tuesday afternoon after police reportedly found 21.3 grams of marijuana and three marijuana plants growing at their Elkins home. Both were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and manufacturing a controlled substance.

Both were released from the Washington County Jail on Wednesday on $2,500 bond.
