Man arrested in rape case

A Chickasha, Okla., man is being held in the Benton County Jail on $75,000 bond after his arrest in connection with allegations concerning the rape of a 9-year-old girl.

Ray Aaron Romo, 63, was arrested Monday in connection with rape, a Class Y felony.

His arrest was the result of an investigation by Gravette police after the girl’s mother reported the sexual abuse of her daughter last week, according to court documents.

The girl first disclosed details of the allegations to her mother. Romo had been watching the girl and her sister for the past six weeks while their mother worked, the probable cause affidavit states.

The girl’s 8-year-old sister also was interviewed, but reported she had not been inappropriately touched by Romo, the probable cause affidavit states.

Romo was interviewed by police and denied sexually abusing the girl, according to court documents.

Prosecutors have not filed formal charges in the case. Romo was still being held in the county jail as of Thursday afternoon.
