I-540 lanes to shut 2 days for bridge work

Posted: November 30, 2012 at 9:43 a.m.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 540 between Arkansas 45 and Arkansas 255 will be closed Monday and Tuesday of next week, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department's Fort Smith headquarters said.

Arkansas 45 is also known as Old Greenwood Road, and Arkansas 255 in that area is also called Zero Street.

The closures, set to occur in either the right or left lane, will be in place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

The Highway Department said the closures are necessary while crews make repairs to the driving surface of bridges and may be adjusted depending on weather or other unforeseen conditions.
