MAGNET COVE — The Bearden Bears advanced to the semifinals of the Class 2A playoffs with a 35-7 quarter final victory over Magnet Cove on Friday night at Kenneth W. Hammons Stadium.
Bearden (11-2), the No. 2 seed out of the 8-2A, scored on its first offensive snap - a 45-yard touchdown run by Zach Craig. A 4-yard touchdown run by B.J. Ross stretched the Bears’ lead to 14-0 with 41 seconds left in the first quarter and it remained the way until the second half.
Magnet Cove (11-2), the No. 1 seed out of the 5-2A, lost for the first time since their season opener Aug. 29 at Parkers Chapel.
Jamond Young returned the opening kickoff of the second half 75 yards for a touchdown to make it 21-0.
Young threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Craig to make it 28-0.
Dameon Berry recovered a fumble to end Magnet Cove’s ensuing drive, and a 43-yard touchdown pass from Marcus Flint to Quinton Wilson made it 35-0.
Young led Bearden with 11 carries for 78 yards.
