HOW WE SEE IT: Thoughts On Election, Voting, Results

Did you hear President Obama’s reference to Benton County in his victory speech late Tuesday night?

This story is only available from our archives.

Opinion, Pages 5 on 11/08/2012

Poor News they were wrong on Romney and now you are whining and making stupid comments with todays opinion. Who ever wrote the opinion stated American people want what they gotten for the last four years, no kidding why in the hell would they want someone like Romney. News opinion writer whoever you are quit buttering your boss Stephens. I can't even imagine what kind of country we would have after 4 years of Romney. This man doesn't know how to tell the truth nor does he know the truth, he was a terrible candidate. Romney was the best the republicans and your crowd could come up with, this is frightening. This country will still have to be exposed to you and your republican friends, we will have to tollerate your radical views and your attempts to obstruct anything that has anything to do with our President. This country will move forward in a positive way with you or without you, you can choose to be the problem or you can do what is right and cooperate and compromise. I do not think you can it just isn't in you to do so. I will tell you this if your party doesn't change it will become a fringe party and a laughing stock, just watch late night television and you can see for yourself.

Not voting for Sewer Plant Cooty does not mean we are pleased with Park Here Jorden's leadership.

>>As for the state Legislature, many thanks to the voters of Arkansas House districts 26, 58 and 63 for rejecting Reps. Loy Mauch, Jon Hubbard and former lawmaker Charles Fuqua.<<

For that you can thank the independent weekly newspaper in Little Rock, The Arkansas Times, for putting together the first story on Ark's Three Stooges. After the Ark Times expose other newspapers picked it up, then it went national.

AT NO TIME DID THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF ARKANSAS WITHDRAW SUPPORT FOR THE THREE RADICAL, RACIST REPUBLICANS, MAUCH, HUBBARD AND FUQUA. The Ark Republican Party would have gladly accepted any of the three. In fact, they already had accepted them since Mauch and Hubbard were sitting Republican state legislators. Fuqua had previously been elected as a Republican and served 10 yrs under Republican Huckabee in the state DHS as an attorney.
So, you as a Republican newspaper and supporter of the Republican Party own the three of them too. Enjoy it. You've fooled no one.

The greed of you punks on the left know no bounds. You proved in this election that slander, racism, anti-Semitism, and every bit of hate dripping from your money-laundering master can always beat a positive informative campaign that focused on aiding the country.

You've succeeded in creating a generation of people who hate their parents so much that they will steal from their children in order to maintain the lifestyle they are accustomed to. Hopefully, you will be just as pleased when your children demonstrate to you how much they learned from you at the first opportunity. It will come sooner than you think.

RE "You proved in this election that slander, racism, anti-Semitism, and every bit of hate dripping from your money-laundering master can always beat a positive informative campaign that focused on aiding the country."
You've got that backwards, but if that's the only way you can cope with your shame, rage and frustration, go ahead and vent.

RE "Hopefully, you will be just as pleased when your children demonstrate to you how much they learned from you"
The joke's on you. Like yourself, I have no children. Unlike yourself, I've had the opportunity. I guess that's two jokes on you.

Hey. it's always name-calling time when one is a total failure on the battlefield of ideas.
Good name calling Irish.

I noted the Koch overlords of Ark successfully bought an Ark legislature. You should be celebrating.
Next will come some attempt at packing Arkansas Courts with judges very friendly to Koch philosophies.

It's the same playbook they've used in the other slave states, beginning in Texas.

Gee calm down, relax, take a nerve pill. Romney was a bad candidate with a bad party. Be glad he did as well as he did with the plans he had for the country. Romney wasn't able to tell the truth or recognize the truth, he attacked women, seniors, poor, sick, health care, gays, immigrants, middle class, automobile companies, working people, minority people and the list goes on and on. Then after all that he picks Ryan for VP, what else do I have to say.

Irish let it go.

Dr. Maddow gives a very nice summary. I challenge our conservatives to watch it, and learn from it:

An excerpt:

“Ohio did go to Obama last night. And he really did win. And he really was born in Hawaii, and he really is legitimately President of the United States, again, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics did not make up a fake unemployment rate last month, and the Congressional Research Service really can find no evidence that cutting taxes on rich people grows the economy, and the polls were not screwed to oversample Democrats, and Nate Silver was not making up fake projections about the election to make conservatives feel bad, Nate Silver was doing math, and climate change is real, and rape really does cause pregnancy sometimes, and evolution is a thing, and Benghazi was an attack on us, it was not a scandal by us, and nobody is taking away anyone’s guns, and taxes have not gone up, and the deficit is dropping, actually, and Saddam Hussein did not have weapons of mass destruction, and the moon landing was real, and FEMA is not building concentration camps, and you UN election observers are not taking over Texas, and moderate reforms of the regulations on the insurance industry and the financial services industry in this country are not the same thing as communism.”

And a bonus, for fun:

RayNelson has it pegged.

I read an on-line analysis that said of the Hispanic vote, They were disappointed in Obama but Romney scared the Hell out of them. So true! I imagine that a lot of people felt that way; I know I did. To be fair, Obama's performance has been admirable in light of the horrid economy he was handed, along with an openly, no-holds-barred, self-proclaimed obstructionist Congress. Who could succeed well in those conditions? Yet, I longed for a Democrat whose values of protecting the environment and our national parks and recreation system were more in line with American values. way in Hell that a Romney/Ryan ticket would do better with this. And Ryan...verrry scary indeed.

A R friend of mine responded to the cartoon of Obama holding a sign that says "Romeny defeats Romney." She said, "the GOP extremists defeated Romney." Much truth in that, as well. When in God's name--pun intended--will the R party wake up and realize that the days of getting a free ride on the backs of Christian fundamentalism are OVER? Our nation's demographics are rapidly changing, no longer the bastion of white men with Dark Ages concepts of the other gender and other races and ethnicities. Oh, times are changing. Maybe we can get back to more Moderate stances. I'm sick of extremism, whether conservative or liberal.

Like all Liberals I don't believe in violence. I will not tolerate intolerance however!!! Republicans keep trying to force their beliefs on everyone and that is just wrong to do that. I am therefore going to beat every Republican black and blue until they see my way is the right way. Then, I am going to push for bipartisan cooperation. Democrat style!!

Government: If you refuse to pay unjust taxes, your property will be confiscated. IF you attempt to defend your property, you will be arrested. Ff you resist arrest, you will be clubbed. If you defend yourself against said clubbing, you will be shot dead. This is called the Rule of Law. The more corrupt a society, the more numerous its laws. The rifle and handgun are "equalizers"--the weapons of a democracy. Tanks and bombers represent dictatorship. I am a democrat, but not a member of the corrupt Democratic party in charge of this pernicious government.

Depends on whose hands they're in. Presently, in Syria, the rebels would love some.

Democracy doesn't need weapons.
They always represent force.

I am pleased that the election is over and the nation can continue on with important business at hand. FFT and Rachel Maddow can keep their bucket of snark. Maybe some folks should be looking at the Congressional race outcomes.

For those that say things like, ""the GOP extremists defeated Romney", I say, get over yourselves drop the Conservative-when-convenient and/or luke warm middle of the road moderate Liberal disguise.

National level elections come and go in cycles. this one is no different.

On the subject of weapons and Democracy, it's a good thing we have have had all those bombers and tanks. Happy Veteran's Day to all those WWII tankers and bomber crews!
