PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Walton Arts Center Lights It Up During Concert

The Walton Arts Center had a Don Williams concert (recently), a very good concert. He is such an entertainer. Many “mercies” were uttered.

There was a problem or two, however. People were told not to use their cellphones in the theater.

That is OK. But when a volunteer saw somebody taking pictures with his phone, they went around and shone their fl ashlights all over, which was very annoying and interrupted the entire performance. The lights would come on atany place at any time. All of the public had paid for the tickets, not to be checked and lit up by the volunteers, but to enjoy a night out.

Why not just tell people not to use their phones and then let it go? The phones are not half as irritating as are the flashlights and the red beam.

And while I’m at it, the parking is ridiculous. You pay $5 to park, but have to be checked out as you exit as if in some unknown way you would have entered without paying. The money spent to pay these parking guys, I’m sure, could be usedin a better way.

Fayetteville PAY MORE ATTENTION Recently, two northwest Arkansas students were hit by motorists in separate accidents. They both suffered critical injuries. We certainly pray for their full recovery. These accidents emphasize how important it is for drivers to watch for pedestrians and especially to be extra careful and diligent in schoolzones. But it should also remind pedestrians that they share in the responsibility for their safety. Often I see pedestrians crossing streets or walking through parking lots with their heads down engrossed in their cellphones or listening to music with ear buds, seemingly oblivious to the traft c around them. Drivers and pedestrians alike, please pay more attention to your surroundings so accidents like these will not happen again.
