NORTHWEST ARKANSAS — A teenager has been arrested in connection with setting fire to his grandparents’ Bentonville home, then returning and flooding it.
The Bentonville fire and police departments responded to a structure fire in the Kensington subdivision in northeast Bentonville at 7:47 p.m. Wednesday.
The homeowners told investigators the master bedroom fire was set intentionally by their grandson, Egan Andreasen, 18, according to a police news release. After an investigation, a warrant was issued Friday for Andreasen’s arrest, and he was arrested Monday.
Also on Monday, the homeowners arrived home to find extensive water damage. A doorknob had been removed from the backdoor and a water hose stuck through the hole, according to a police news release. Investigators determined Andreasen was responsible.
Damage from the fire was estimated at $15,000. Water damage was estimated at more than $10,000.
Andreasen was charged in connection with felony arson and felony first-degree criminal mischief. He was being held in Benton County Jail on Monday with no bond set.
