Bids Opened on 21st Street Project

— Bids were opened Monday for a project which will add sidewalks and drainage to a portion of 21st Street.

Initial plans called for construction of sidewalks along 21st between Perry and New Hope roads, but grew into a drainage and curb and gutter project, said Lance Jobe, a civil engineer with the city.

“The more we looked at the project we saw some other things we could do to improve the street and increase the safety of the residents walking on the street,” Jobe said.

Four bids were submitted for the project. Morrison-Shipley Engineers put together the bid package and estimated the cost of the project at $1.134 million.

Bidders included APAC Central/McClinton, Dean Crowder Construction, DECCO Contractors and Fochtman Enterprises Inc.

The low bidder was Fochtman Enterprises from Fayetteville with a bid of $1,106,668.

Other bids were $1,116,506 from DECCO, $1.285 million from Crowder and $1.281 million from APAC Central.

The street is 3,600 feet from Perry Road to New Hope Road.

Jobe will vet the bids before the contract goes to the Rogers City Council for action on July 10.
