Arkansas GOP to pick delegates to national convention

— Arkansas Republicans are gathered in North Little Rock to select delegates to the GOP national convention.

State Republican Chairman Doyle Webb told members Saturday that the party will donate nearly $1 million to state candidates this year. He said that’s up from $300,000 in 2010.

While the goal of delegate candidates is to represent the state at the party’s convention in Tampa, Fla., in August, much of the focus was on what activists do for state and local candidates.

Webb said the state party is operating with 20 percent fewer employees and with a 25 percent payroll reduction but he says the party is accomplishing more than in the past.

Webb challenged Gov. Mike Beebe to cut state government in a similar manner.

Democrats held their delegate convention last weekend.
