Wounded Warrior Benefit Scheduled

— Wounded Warrior Project will receive the proceeds of a chicken barbecue Saturday.

Wounded Warrior Project serves military service members who incurred service-connected wounds, injuries or illnesses on or after Sept. 11, 2001, and their families, according to the organization’s website.

Moved by stories of the first wounded service members returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq, some veterans and their friends started Wounded Warrior Project. It began as a program to provide comfort items to wounded service members. The project now provides complete rehabilitative effort to assist service members as they transition back to civilian life.

Whitey’s Chicken Cookin’ Crew will barbecue the chicken which should be ready for sale by 9:30 a.m. The event will be near the intersection of Second and Locust streets.
