Amateur Radio Contest Promotes Preparedness

— The Amateur Radio Club of the University of Arkansas will participate in Field Day, an national annual radio contest promoting emergency preparedness.

The event begins at 1 p.m. Saturday and continues for 24 hours. It will be in the field just south of the Botanical Garden Society of the Ozarks on Crossover Road in Fayetteville.

The simulation will operate continuously until 1 p.m. Sunday, powered entirely by solar energy. It will demonstrate potential radio communications that can be instituted in emergency conditions.

The public is invited to attend and participate.

Solar power will be provided by the Green Mobile Solar Energy Laboratory from the university.
