Springdale Airport Gets Grant

FEDERAL MONEY WILL PROVIDE VISUAL GUIDANCE SYSTEM

— The municipal airport has $153,000 coming from a federal grant.

The aiport will receive the money to install a visual guidance system and an automatic weather observing system to improve safety and efficiency by providing accurate, current and site-specific weather information, according to a news release.

Some of the money will be used to install perimeter fencing to prevent unauthorized people and vehicles from entering the airfield.

Springdale was one of nine airports in the state to receive grants Friday from the U.S. Department of Transportation for repairs and new construction.

The grants were announced by the state’s congressional delegation.

“Local airports are critical for economic growth in local cities across the state,” said 3rd District Rep. Steve Womack, R-Rogers. “These grants provide funding for vital maintenance to facilities like the Springdale Municipal Airport to improve the safety and efficiency for its employees and customers alike.”
