Police Probe Block Avenue Stabbing

STOUT SAYS MAN FOUND WOUNDED IN ABDOMEN, APPEARED INTOXICATED

— Police on Tuesday were still trying to piece together evidence related to a Monday evening stabbing on Block Avenue.

Police Sgt. Craig Stout said Kenneth Malloy, 45, of Fayetteville suffered a stab wound to his abdomen.

“He’s in ICU, hooked up to a ventilator,” Stout said. “We haven’t been able to talk to him.”

Malloy was not listed as a patient at Washington Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, but according to the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, patients can choose whether they want to be listed in the hospital’s public directory.

Officers were called to an apartment at 315 S. Block Ave. at 7:21 p.m. for a report of a man with a stab wound.

“We don’t know if it happened at the apartment complex or if it happened somewhere else,” Stout said. “Someone who lives in the area found him.”

Stout said Malloy was lying in dirt and appeared intoxicated. He was reportedly unable to tell police what happened.

Stout said Malloy became combative at the hospital Monday night and had to be sedated.

Police don’t know what led to the stabbing nor do they have any suspect information. Stout said detectives haven’t ruled anything out, including the possibility the stab wound was self-inflicted.

“We don’t have any information at this point that says one thing or another,” he said.
