Children's Hospital gets $2.2 million donation

— Arkansas Children's Hospital has received a $2.2 million gift from the estate of the late Thomas Stephens, officials announced Tuesday.

Stephens, who died in October, requested his donation be used to help fund programs including vascular anomalies/cleft lip palate, dental and ophthalmology and the Angel One transport program.

Stephens, a retired metallurgical engineer who lived in Hot Springs Village for more than 25 years, made the gift through stock gifts, life insurance and a bequest.

“After a personal experience, Tom was always interested in improving children’s healthcare, and he was amazed at the work being done at Arkansas Children's Hospital,” Stephens' friend, Jim Staudt, said in a statement. “When he began making his estate plans, he knew he wanted to support the hospital any way he could.”

Officials say donors often include gifts for the hospital in their estate plans.
