FAYETTEVILLE — Washington County Justice of the Peace Eva Madison, D-Fayetteville, announced Thursday she will seek a second term on the Quorum Court.
Madison represents District 8, which covers parts of central Fayetteville. Redistricting based on the 2010 U.S. Census, however, increased the number of Quorum Court districts from 13 to 15. Changes in the boundaries and numbering of the new districts mean Madison will seek the District 9 seat this election cycle. The boundaries are similar to the previous District 8 lines.
Madison focused in her first term on budgeting and animal issues, particularly building a county animal shelter.
“I expect to continue my efforts in both those areas if re-elected,” she said. “We’re also in the process of developing a legislative package for the 2013 session, and I think that will produce some interesting ideas.”

Madison is an attorney specializing in employment law at Littler Mendelson, and teaches at the University of Arkansas School of Law. She is the daughter of state Sen. Sue Madison, D-Fayetteville, who also served several terms on the Quorum Court.
Madison is the only announced candidate for the new District 9 seat. Justice Butch Pond, R-Round Mountain, represents the old District 9 covering Elkins and rural eastern Washington County. Redistricting placed Pond in the new District 15.
