Leaders hope store spurs growth Officials hope a planned Walmart Supercenter on the west side of town spurs economic growth.

Fast Facts

Walmart Information

The planned Walmart Supercenter on Elm Springs Road west of Interstate 540 will be the second in Springdale. The store at 2004 S. Pleasant St. opened in 1972 and was remodeled in 2010.

This will be the first Supercenter built in Northwest Arkansas since the store on Pleasant Grove Road in Rogers opened in 2005.

The new Springdale store will be Walmart’s eighth in Benton and Washington counties.

Walmart has 103 Arkansas locations and the average wage for regular, full-time hourly workers in the state is $11.88 an hour.

The retailer plans to build between 220 and 240 stores in fiscal 2014, which runs from Feb. 1, 2013, through Jan. 31, 2014. Plans call for more than half of the new stores to be Supercenters.

There is a large emtpy building on 71 they could have moved into. I guess it will stay empty a little while longer.

How would it help the west side of Springdale if Wal-Mart moved into an empty building on 71? There is already a SuperCenter on 71.

Anyone remember when the Springdale Chamber of Welfare was touting that economic growth would spring up around the socialism baseball stadium?
Upscale stores would sprout all over.

Thus far, we've seen one truck stop even get close.

Now we see that MacAdoodles is the leader bringing W. side development, not the Chamber of Welfare's little project to line their buddies' pockets.

When this new Wal-Mart is built, the old one on 71 will become a indoor parking lot, or they will change the name to Wal-Mart Super Mercado, habla no english.

"Jobs that won't pay enough to buy a house or feed a family without assistance. Congratulations."

Then get a job somewhere else. It is 300+ jobs that weren't in Springdale before.

Last time I was in the 71 Supercenter was about 2 months ago. I was very crouded then. I don't think a knew store threatens the old one at all.
