— Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe has declared Friday as a day of mourning for the victims of the deadly Connecticut school shooting.

The governor says the state will observe a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. Friday in honor of those killed in the attack at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

The governor issued a proclamation commending the “tremendous acts of bravery” from the teachers, staff and first responders at the school.

Beebe’s proclamation also asks places of worship and government buildings to ring their bells 26 times at 9:30 a.m. Friday in honor of the 20 students and six adults killed in the shootings.
